2017 Four Week Camp, Traveling Throughout South Carolina seeking new and exciting adventures around every corner.
We limit our camps to a maximum of 12 kids. We are currently only running one, four week camp this summer.
July 2nd to July 29th.
Itinerary for our 2017 camp.
We will start off our 4 weeks with drop off on Sunday July 2nd. Kids will be dropped off with our camp staff at our shop on Folly Beach. (If we have kids flying to us, we ask that they fly into Charleston Airport. The camper must fly in on July 2nd and have a return flight on July 29th. We will arrange airport pick up with parents after the student is signed up for camp.) The kids and counselors will pack the kids gear into our camp trailer, pile into our van and start out on a 4 week adventure of a lifetime.
We will spend our first week at Buck Hall. From here we will be stand up paddle boarding. We will mountain bike from our camp site on the Palmetto Trail. We will kayak on the intercoastal waterway to some great little islands, as well as hike Palmetto Trail from our camp site. On Friday morning we will pack our gear and get ready for a trek into the mountains.
By Friday afternoon we will be well on our way to setting up a camp site in the middle of the Jocassee Gorges Wilderness Area. We will spend three nights in the gorges with our departure day being Monday. The student will learn low impact camping, how to purify water, start a fire, and much more.
On Monday it will be the kids first "rest" day. On our way to our next campground near the Chattooga River, we will stop off in Mountain Rest, SC to do some much needed laundry. We will stay in town just long enough to freshen up out clothing and then get to our camp site before dark to set up camp.
From our new camp site we will be rafting, on the Chattooga. We will explore and swim at the lake. We will hike in the state forest as well as take a mountain bike ride. We also will spend some more time on the beautiful Chattooga before starting out for next destination.
Ending our second week we will travel Aiken State Park. We will spend the weekend here with a day trip into town for any needed laundry ect..... While at the park we will be spending a day hiking the Jungle Nature Trail as well as spending time getting ready for a multi day river trip down the Edisto River.
We will start our on Tuesday morning for the Edisto River. We will access the river near Wetstones Crossroads, SC and paddle down stream until we come to an area we can use for camping. The Edisto river is a slow moving river that is know for its winding waters that cut through the countryside. This is a great river to enjoy the backcountry in one of our canoes that are just rite for backcountry paddles. We will set up a campsite and relax on the shores of the Edisto River. The kids we be able to learn bushcraft and improvised fishing as well as leave no trace practices. The next day we will pack up our camp site and start out to Colleton State Park on the river. Each day we will try to paddle about 15 miles before stopping at a camp site. Due to water levels and ever changing flow we never know where each day will bring us. We have a follow vehicle on one of the roads beside the river meeting us periodically to make sure we need no assistance as well as carrying much of the camping gear that we will need at night. By Thursday we will have paddled to the park. We will spend the night here before departing east.
Our next stop is Edisto Island State Park. The kids will spend the rest of their Friday getting in a nice hot shower, setting up camp and relaxing. The next day will be an "off" day this will be the last day for the kids to do laundry and make phone calls post on facebook etc... before the last week of camp.
Sunday will start off our last week of camp. This week will be based out of Edisto State Park on the sands of the Atlantic Ocean. This week we will be biking the bike trails, the kids will pick what way they want to go and counselors will split off with two groups. We will do some surfing and call in expert surf instructors. The kids will go paddle boarding on creeks as well as paddling from our camp site. We will end the week with a day at the beach before departing on Saturday am.
The week will end with pick up at noon on Saturday the 29th. Teens will be picked up our shop on Folly Beach, SC the same place they were dropped off. The kids will sure to have many stories to tell. We will put together a photo and video DVD from our adventures that will be sent out as soon as we can get it put together.
The schedule of activities and camping areas above may change due to weather and other unforeseen events. For example, if it rains and the water is up in the rivers we will go kayaking or rafting. If its going to be a hot humid day we may only hike for 1/2 a day and then go swimming in the afternoon. We try to make this camp as fun as possible for everyone.
